Janet Evanovich has added a hot new addition to her Stephanie Plum series with Sizzling Sixteen. This time Vinnie has been kidnapped and is being held for a ransom amounting to his gambling debts plus interest. It is up to Stephanie, Lulu and Connie to get together the money and rescue Vinnie before he is killed to set an example. The story also contains all of the off-the-wall elements that make this series so much fun including Stephanie’ wrecking cars and her botched attempts at capturing skips, making me chuckle out loud in a couple of places. This one even includes hobbits. Stephanie still hasn’t made up her mind between Joe Morelli and Ranger, but this book pushed me a little more towards Team Ranger when I had been a pretty solid Team Morelli fan up to this point.
While I definitely enjoyed the book, I do feel that the series isn’t really going anywhere. There are only so many times one person can wreck a car. And Stephanie really needs to make a decision as to which man she wants to be with. I can’t figure out why either man would stay with Stephanie Plum when she can’t commit. I almost feel like Evanovch is afraid to make the commitment herself to which of Stephanie’s men she wants to see her with in the end. What happens to the bail bonds office makes this a perfect place to make some changes to Stephanie’s life. If Evanovich wants to keep her readers reading her books, something needs to change.
